Bill: National Animal
Details
Submitted by[?]: New Luthori Reformists (NLR)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 3270
Description[?]:
OOC: Everyone, and I mean everyone, has the lion as their national animal. Sure, it's regal and all, but it's so boring. Why don't we stand apart from the crowd and have something awesome, like a phoenix? :D |

Message | OOC: The lion was the traditional heraldic animal of Luthori, since it was supposed to have been founded by King Richard I (the Lionheart, etc.). We could do a double-headed eagle, which would fit with the holy empire theme; we could even take the empire into a more byzantine aesthetic, maybe. |

Message | OOC: No offence, but that's so cliché. |

Message | OOC: And a phoenix is naff as anything. Do you have a better suggestion? |

Message | OOC: Look through the nations and see how many have a lion as a national animal. Then try finding a phoenix. Personally, I think that the phoenix gives the nation a good metaphoric basis, like "Risen from the ashes of old" or something like that. It's fairly unique, if you ask me. I mean, really. It's just so overdone with the lions. And the eagles. And the dragons, etc. |

Message | OOC: Eagles, yes. Double-headed ones are rather less common, although having looked over the national animals in use in Particracy, the eagle and the lion are very over-represented, so point taken there. On the other hand, the Phoenix is used by three other countries (one of which is Hutori), and it just makes me think of the Liberal Democrat logo. The Dragon isn't that common - one other nation has it - and we could mix things up a bit by having it be a wyvern rather than a dragon per se. I'd rather it was a genuine heraldic animal, but I'm perfectly open to a good suggestion. Just not very keen on the phoenix, I'm afraid. |

Message | OOC: The Phoenix has been the national animal for more than 500 years I see absolutely no reason to change it. AFAIK there's a very good reason the Phoenix is our national animal, it's because it was on the crest of Emperor Henry I who was Emperor of Luthori, Alduria and Hulstria during the 27th century, which also happens to explain why the phoenix is also Hulstria's national animal, it's because it comes from the same place. |

Message | OOC: That's enough for me to vote for keeping it. Perhaps a nice flag to go with it might work well. |
