Bill: Religious Dress Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Catholic Political Union
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 3272
Description[?]:
We do not need a de facto law prohibiting all Telamonese public servants from wearing religious items of dress. It may be reasonable that in specific working situations it is inappropriate for a particular religious item to be worn. This might be, for example, if it compromises safety, inhibits effective working or is judged to insensitive. What we reject is the idea that *every* religious item of dress in *every* situation in *every* position in the public sector needs to be banned. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, It is tremendously important for us to keep church and state seperate. The majority of our citizens are secular in nature, and do not need public leaders who are supposed to represent all Telamonese citizens wearing religious clothing. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
