Bill: Anarch Anakrousite Shatter Reform Resolution - Isolationism

Details

Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2149

Description[?]:

In the wake of recent disturbances across our border to the East, some in the Senate believe we require a formal Resolution of our intent to remain 'isolated'.

This has advantages - since a prior document always enables Likatonia to stay uninvolved when we wish, due to 'prior agreement'.

The AAS suggests that Likatonia adopt a policy of 'Isolationism', that basically entails the following concepts:

1) Likatonia remains non-partisan in regional/Terran politics.

2) Likatonia remains sovereign and uninvolved in politics/conflicts on the world stage.

3) Likatonia is not bound to provide aid, support, accomodation, access or resources to any external power.

***
4) Likatonian operations and endeavours overseas, are to remain inviolable, to whatever extent is realistically possible, regardless of external events.

5) In the event of interactions with other powers being interrupted by disturbances of any kind, Likatonia shall attempt to retain as equitable, transparent, and impartial world-stage relations as feasibly possible.

6) In the event of interactions with other powers being interrupted by disturbances of any kind, Likatonia shall attempt to return all dealings to a state of equilibrium, as fully, and as immediately, as possible.
***

The AAS believes that these basic 'restrictions' will enable the Likatonian people to stay clear of a deal of petty regional/global politics. However, it is NOT intended that these 'restrictions' be absolute, in any fashion.

The Resolution is entered into with the EXPLICIT assurance, by all parties, that consideration will ALWAYS be given to any particular situation... and that Likatonia may be allowed to 'opt-out' of their Isolationist 'contract' if a need is perceived... on agreement by the majority of Senate seats.

Further, this Resolution itself is envisioned as being only as permanent as it is servicable. It is the intent, of ALL parties, that this Resolution, itself, may be overturned on agreement by supermajority (2/3 seats) of the Senate.

MessageThe Ministry of Trade and Industry would like to consider the addition of a clause promoting free trade with any and all parties involved in any such conflicts. We do not want to see our people thrown out of work in the event of an external war.

In order to test the water, the AAS intends to push this motion directly to vote.

MessageThis doesn't seem very isolationist really. I like it. I also like how it doesn't close off options, it just gives us a defined framework for ensuring that the options are utilized properly.

MessageWe don't agree with the neutralism of this resolution. We believe we should oppose powers that aim to establish global or regional hegemonies through force. We believe we should support nations that stand for freedom and against the expansionism of certain powers. We believe that Likatonia should pursue a policy of collective defence with other powers in the region.

MessageResponse to the PCP: The whole point of the Resolution, was a statement of INTENT to Isolationist policy... not a 'blanket over our heads'.

We realise we may have to be involved at some points... this is purely a 'platform', if you will.

MessageResponse to the Representative Party: We realise that there are going to be times when individual parties, or even the entire nation, are going to wish to be involved in certain aspects of world culture and conflict... but we believe that these events should be EXCEPTIONS, rather than the rule.

Liaktonia is not a BIG nation, nor an especially rich one. We are NOT militaristic, and we have a tiny defence budget (indeed, a tiny overall budget) compared to SOME of the world players.

It is NOT, therefore, in our interests, to be openly hostile, or avowedly interventionist.

Also - while the AAS despises certain political activities (for example, the fact that Deltaria may allow slaveholding), we are unsure how much pressure we SHOULD bring to bear on another nation's sovereignty.

We supported defence, in case of intervention across the border, during the Lodamun crisis... but we did NOT support becoming actively involved in the disputes between two other powers.

As we have already stated... this is a 'statement of intent'... it is not binding arbitration.
