| Message | No, I am not opposed to it, what I am opposed too is regulating their labour the same way you'd regulate an adults. Lets examplify..A factory setting, A man in his early twenties, just outta college(and now with no money.....)is hired, as well as a 12 year old boy. The Manager is going to worry more about the twelve year old getting hurt, than he would the twenty year old. Its natural..With this in mind, it isn't really possible for children to get equal labour oppertunities in some settings. Pass any bill that you want....What we don't see, we don't know about..So now, if this Bill passes, Managers who never hired children in their entire lives now get these teens and pre-teens sending in applications. Sure, same regulations, but any money says that Manager sticks them to some cleanup duty or otherwise to stay out of harms way. Oh, and then there's the whole ordeal on having to make age-limits for other jobs, otherwises we'll have children working about in our police forces, with batons and stunguns up against godknowswhat...But that's getting off track.. Point is, they're not adults, they wont have to wait long to become adults, so drop the whole 'Oh, they gotta learn the routine sometime' setting, Sixteen folks, its not like they're missing out on much. |

| Message | No one said anything about equal opportunity. It is within the employer's rights to treat employees different based on age, just like race and sex. Children, having still not fully developed mentally or physically, would not be able to perform certain (if not most) jobs as well as adults. Using your example, a child probably could not chase down and apprehend a criminal and thus would not be hired as a policeman. |
