MessageAlthough this is a great improvement on the government media act, the CCF sees no reason for the government to interfere in the media sector at this time.

MessageI suggest that you remove the part about the public being 'encouraged' to watch the government owned stations, future governments may intrepret that differently.

MessageI suggest you remove the part about being government run.

Why don't you change it to:

"The government shall fund a number of independent radio and television stations which shall be run, with total editorial freedom, by collectives with a specific mandate to provide a broad-based mix of popular, cultural, educational and informative programming."

MessageThis is a thoughtful and well-worded bill, certainly. However, it remains CCF party policy to oppose state-subsidized media outlets. If a future bill on this topic comes up, offering tax breaks to purely educational stations, then we could lend it our support.

MessageSorry, I didn't think about this before, but these should be advertising-free stations, which is why they need funding.

One of the advantages of this is that it allows educational tv and radio not to be compromised by advertising or product placement.

This is key to shielding children and young people from advertising.
