Message | We have reservations about providing child support benefit to even the richest of families, however the SSP is committed to the universal provision of social services, and opposed on principle to means-tested welfare, so we will support. |

Message | we thank you for your support, and we too are commited to providing universal welfare and feel that this would help out the poor more than the rich |

Message | Exactly - by definition, the "rich" will be a minority in relation to the average person or family, and it is that reason which leads us to agree with this move. Another point to consider is that a child from a financially privileged household may not benefit directly from their parent's or parents' wealth - put simply, "rich" children may still be neglected. The government should actively ensure that each and every child, from whatever background, is given an equal opportunity in life, and the SSP feels this is a most appropriate tool in achieving that. |

Message | We believe we can support the proposal, though we wish we could learn how much such an extensive measure would cost the nation in the long run. |

Message | That is a worthy consideration, yes. (OOC: I'm guessing you weren't thinking of a further rise in corporation tax...? :-P) |

Date | 13:09:32, December 07, 2005 CET | From | Solentian Socialist Party | To | Debating the Child Welfare Act |
Message | Either way, the SSP is willing to pass this initiative as it stands - it may be costly, but we believe the effects will be such that any adverse financial burden is worth shouldering. (OOC: How exactly do you modify income tax levels? Is it only the head of government who can do so?) |

Message | i believe that only the head of government or head of state can alter the budget.... |
