MessageSenator,

You believe that it'd be wise to permit the capitalist of this nation to burden the people and workers under profit making techniques?

MessageSenator,

It appears as though the DWP doesn't have time to read the daily Solentia newspaper. We will be kind enough to show you the latest poll that was taken in November 3351 stating that 40% of the people paying these phone bills don't wish to have them regulated.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"November 3351
Opinion Poll

An opinion poll was held among the citizens of the Federal Republic of Solentia. The subject of the opinion poll was The government's policy concerning phone services. When asked what their opinions were, the following choices were made:

Percentage Choice

40.21% There are no regulations on phone service.
16.61% The state regulates the rates providers can charge for phone service.
12.04% The state subsidizes the phone service of low income families, and regulates the rates providers can charge for phone service.
14.87% The state subsidizes the phone service of low income families but does not regulate the rates providers can charge for phone service.
16.26% Telephone lines are provided free of charge to all citizens."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This will encourage new phone companies to open and create fair competitive prices and choice. Join us, DWP in signing this bill.

Message"Senetors,

while we accept that 40% of citizens do not wish to have telephone services regulated, we would point out that the remaining 60% of citizens do with for the service to be regulated in some way or form. We believe that the current model is best as it allows competition in the industry but does not allow unfair charges.

The Liberal Party would also say that we are governed by our principles and not opinion polls as these will change from time to time."

MessageSenators,

Perhaps the Liberals think we have no principles, and the DWP thinks we are unwise, but one of our MAIN PRINCIPLE is to listen to the people first and THEN we evaluate the results to weigh in with our ideologies, and finally make a WISE decision to pass a Bill.

This is one of those moments where the polls surpassed our policy.

The Liberals should know that the polls change because people change because as Bob Dylan wrote " The times, they are a changin". If they don't then they should rename their party to the CONSERVATIVES.

Political parties were created for the nation not for personal gain or fancy titles.

MessageSenators,

a good speech by our RAP colleague, however he does not address the issue that 60% of those polled want some form of regulated service

MessageSenators,

We agree that 60% of the nation is in favor for regulated phone service in some way, in which 16% are in favor for services to be free. We believe that in making the phones free at this present moment would have a negative impact in our economy, so therefore, the 16% of free services was not in our debate floor within the RAP. Left with a 40% for and 44% against regulations, and believing that removing regulations will help our economy and unemployment decrease with time.

It would be easy to only look at polls.
Let's encourage competitive markets to flourish in Solentia.
