Message | [The Right Honorable Nathaniel Simmons] Regarding Article 1, When that KAC introduced the Internet Investigations Act, we felt that an additional change was needed after looking through our existing legislation. As with internet investigations, presently if there was a letter communication between terrorists or between organized crime figures, we could not investigate the letters for evidence... thus the Department of Justice is once again severely restricted. As much as I want to know my letters' confidentiality is inviolable, the criminals do too. In addition, as the governments' word, if such an emergency occurred and we had to open a suspect's letter, if the suspect were found clear of charges, we would give him/her compensation, re-seal the letter, and vow not to introduce the letter's contents to the media, official or otherwise. This is just our view on the security situation. It might be controversial, but I hope that I have given reason. We will allow debate for this bill until after the November 3386 election, then will submit it for vote. |
