Bill: Public Housing (Revision) Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Solentian Socialist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2154
Description[?]:
At the present time, responsibility for housing policy rests with local government, as a result of the Local Housing Initiative written by the SSP. When we proposed that bill, all housing was privately owned, and with no seats in Parliament our party believed our first priority was to offer an alternative that was likely to be passed - we were unfamiliar with the political spectrum, and wanted to avoid alienating anyone. In recent years, however, we have come to regret that decision. Although we genuinely believe our reform was a great improvement, we also recognise that it provided no statutory right to housing. Now, the SSP holds that shelter is a fundamental human right, without which we are excluded from modern society. For this reason, we propose the state provision of "public housing to low-income families". |
Proposals

Message | As the NMP are a newly formed party, i.e. we haven't had experience with this area, all we can say is that if the local government cannot carry out this task, then we feel there is no choice but to agree to the state taking control on such a fundamental issue. |

Message | This was our Local Housing Initiative: http://82.238.75.178:8085/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=33109 Our main concern is that, even in areas where parties committed to private home ownership control the local government, and are therefore opposed to offering social housing, many people WILL be in need of it. Even the richest areas will have their share of people in need - put simply, we no longer feel justified in trusting local authorities to do the "right thing", as it were. |

This is what ecologically-minded socialists have been exploring for quite some time now." - Louis Proyect |
