MessageMadam Speaker, this Bill would overturn all of the good work that has been achieved in Dranland in recent years in terms of reducing car polluition. Legislation like this would see car pollution sky-rocket. We also believe, Madam Speaker, that the experience of driving cars encourages harmful individualist and selfish attitudes which are inimical to social harmony and the development of socialist consciousness. Public transport is a much more sociable and socially responsibile alternative.

MessageMadam Speaker, while we certainly reject imposing ideological consciousness upon the people - which is social engineering at its worst - as Mr Maddocks is propagating, we believe that the current system is worth being retained as a way to incentivize clean fuels and ecological responsibility while not infringing private autonomy. We will therefore not support this bill.

MessageOOC: I love how, suddenly, driving a car is a crime against the proletariat.

MessageOOC: lol actually I genuinely think these things do have a very subtle effect on how people regard themselves in relation to the rest of society. I suspect people who drive cars are likely to be influenced in a more individualist direction, whereas those who use public transport are likely to be influenced in a more collectivist direction.

MessageMadam Speaker, we agree with Cadfael Maddocks that private car ownership is a symbol of the destructive individualist practices of the capitalists, and we support public transportation as a means for building solidarity and proletarian class consciousness.

MessageOOC: Well, cars were actually pretty symbolic of the new totalitarian societies of the 30's. Fordism, Volkswagens and all that.

MessageOOC: Yeah, you have a point. Hitler said something about wanting every German to have a car.

MessageOOC: In East Germany, cars managed to both be a symbol of egalitarianism (because everyone had a right to one) and a status symbol, because they took years to arrive after you'd earned it.
