Bill: Parliamentary representation rebalancing intiative

Details

Submitted by[?]: MLC Old Endralonian Resistance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2050

Description[?]:

We have long fallen off target with our original aim of 1 member of parliment to every 100,000 citizens , I think it is important to keep a clear figure as our aim for representation. Yet to re-align with the original figure would lead to a drastic reduction in seats and in all probability a set-back for practical democracy in Endralon (at least until we see what economics bring).

Thus I propose a new target of 1 MP to every 60,000 citizens and the initial parliamentary resize implied.

The new parliament would consist of 658 seats.

MessageI'm bored of changing the number of seats over and over again. 601 is good.

MessageI just think we should set a firm ratio from population to seats and 601 is messy I chose the nicest number with minimal change

MessageI originally proposed 600 but I agreed with CPE that, for one thing, we needed a prime number to prevent having an exactly hung National Assembly.

I have no strong feelings either way on this.

Messagewell a prime number that makes sense .. how would you feel about 659 it still fits my ratio approximately but with different rounding?

I just think the number of seats we use should have some justification , 601 is so arbitrary.
