Bill: Stem Cell Research Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 3436

Description[?]:

Madam Speaker, I respect the reality that many Dranish citizens - including some members of my own party - have grave ethical objections to what we are proposing here with regards to stem cell research. However, it is the position of the DSP that, for the benefit of those suffering from terrible conditions, we need to allow this vital research to go forwards.

Antonio Benandez MP
(Leader of the DSP)

MessageOOC: As a scientific note here, adult stems cells, injected with certain types of viruses or treated with proteins, can turn into what are called induced pluripotent stem cells. So it is pretty much possible to get adult stem cells, and turn them back into embryonic stem cells.

MessageMr Speaker, there are indeed indications that embryonic stem cell research might benefit some areas of science, however we believe these are outweighed by the moral premise that human life should not be used for experiments with uncertain outcome.

Minister for Science and Technology
