Message | Mr Speaker, We believe in a liberal economic system for many reasons. If this bill was passed, Dranish taxpayers would be held financially responsible for the activities of our banks, which would mean in the event of a bank getting into financial difficulties, we would be forced to use Dranish taxpayers' money to keep the bank financially solvent. More directly, a nationalised bank would not necessarily provide innovative services desired by consumers, as they would not be driven by the motive of profit. Obviously, on a moral level, we also oppose this measure. Why should government be allowed to stop private innovation and investment? Antonio Rajoy MP Deputy Prime Minister |
Date | 22:27:38, February 05, 2013 CET | From | Grand National Party | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
Message | Mr Speaker, we agree with all that the Rt. Hon. Deputy Prime Minister has stated, and wish to add that it is utterly absurd to believe that a single government policy on banking can better satisfy the needs of "the people" - which are not a homogeneous community as the DSP believes, but a group of individuals with different needs and desires - than the diverse environment of competing operators in a free market. Elina Cadiavera MP Member for Loren Minister for Trade and Industry |
Date | 00:07:56, February 06, 2013 CET | From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
Message | Mr. Speaker, banks become insolvent because their greed for profit and bonuses leads them to take unacceptable risks with money that is not theirs. A banking system run along responsible socialist lines would never crash and would be far, far, far more socially responsible than the private banks of today are. Antonio Benandez MP (Leader of the DSP) |
Date | 00:10:49, February 06, 2013 CET | From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
Message | Mr. Speaker, we will all listen to the Minister for Trade & Industry with special interest on this subject, since we all know how, ahem, she has intimate and expert knowlege of how to satisfy the "needs and desires" of bankers... Gyeong Dong MP (Suspended DSP MP) |

Message | Mr. Speaker, you can't throw me out of Parliament - that's not fair! I'm a democratically elected representative of the people! This is a right-wing capitalist conspiracy! Mr. Speaker, both you and all of these GNP MPs are conspiring on behalf of the banks to destroy democracy and silence criticism of the finance industry! This is a plot to abolish democracy and replace it with a dictatorship run by the bankers! Gyeong Dong MP (Suspended DSP MP) <Gyeong Dong skulks out of Parliament, to jeers and boos from MPs> |
Date | 00:46:25, February 06, 2013 CET | From | Grand National Party | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
Message | (GNP MPs jeer and boo as Dong leaves Parliament, Alice Claythorne throws a pencil at him from behind) Mr Speaker, as a doctor I know the risks of remote diagnosis, but I think there are quite obvious medical indications to suggest to the Hon. Member Dong to better move straight from Parliament to the lunatic asylum! Dr. Howard Thornton MP Member for Loren Minister for Health and Social Services (more booing and jeering for Dong, laughter on the benches of the right) |
Date | 00:52:53, February 06, 2013 CET | From | Radical Liberal Party of Dranland | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
Message | Speaker Maddocks: Dr.Thornton it was a amusing joke but you need to withdraw your statement |
Date | 00:54:53, February 06, 2013 CET | From | Grand National Party | To | Debating the Banking Reform Act |
