Bill: Crop subsidies

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Territorial Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2050

Description[?]:

Subsidies based on demand are an excellent way to engineer the yield of crops to fit our needs. Without these, shortages and excesses are commonplace and these can cause many problems. The farms are still kept private and so remain competitively efficient, but efficient in growing what is needed.

MessageThe previous situation as well as this proposition do not change a single thing. Food is not something to market. It is a basic necessity and should not be subjected to capitalist ways of thinking.

MessageIf there is market demand for a crop being grown, then the farmers will sell a lot of it and there will be no need for a subsidy.

This bill, in other words, is a pointless.

MessageUnless there is more demand for it than has been grown due to farmers having no incentive to do so. Then it would not be, as you say, a pointless.

MessageIf there is demand, then prices will rise. Seeing the higher prices, profit-seeking farmers will produce more of that crop.
