Bill: Self-Defence Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Grand National Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3453

Description[?]:

Madam Speaker,

in the light of the Egelian threat, we should be quick to abolish our absurd policy of barring our troops from deploying their full arsenal as a deterrent. What is the message of the current laws on nukes? Should we really wait until the enemy has put our country in ruins until we allow ourselves to defend our lands and our citizens?

MessageMadam Speaker, my party has already proposed very significant increases to spending on our conventional armed forces. We believe this would be sufficient to provide a solid deterrence against invasion. However, there is a difference between deterrence and provocation. Adopting a more aggressive nuclear weapons policy would, we fear, risk giving the Egelians an excuse to launch precipitative action. I am therefore counselling against the passing of this Bill. Let us not go into this dispute with Egelion with the attitude that we are looking for a nuclear war.
