Bill: Left-Liberal Government

Voting deadline: May 3465
Description[?]:
Another proposal for a government including VG, KRP, IL and KP. Despite our differences we feel that these four parties can work together in the interests of all Kazulians and hope the proposal shall gain the support it requires. |

Message | And how would this government work in practice? - De venstregrønne is a communist party and Indigoblå Liga is a liberal/conservative party, how can you ever get a common ground? |

Message | The same can be said for Retsforbundet's proposed government: a left-wing socialist party (SF) in a coalition with right-wing libertarians (UaF). The most logical coalition if we're going to have governments of ideologically similar parties is our first proposal - VG, SF, KRP and KP. |

Message | Retsforbundet is a centre party and builds bridge from the left wing to the right wing, we can easily find common ground. SF would like to partly privatize some parts of the economy and this would UaF of course support. We have also been talking about a tax reform where we lower the medium tax and this is something both parties would like to do. So as De venstregrønne can see, we have common ground on many issues. We can however not see how it could be possible for you to make a government with Indigoblå Liga, they did not even support one single proposal in your huge bill. |

Message | The positions are fine but considering the new parliamentary policy proposal and our vastly differering ideologies we do not see how this could work in the long run ... |

Message | The new proposal for how governments should be organised is a good idea as a general principle but I think there should also be a scope for flexibility within each individual government. Some governments may decide, for example, to vote the same way on everything while others will allow their members to vote freely on certain issues. If VG forms a government with IL and KRP then I would suggest we try to negotiate an agreement on key bills such as a budget and tax proposal as well as a programme of policies which all parties will agree to support. However at the same time each party would also be free to make their own bills which wouldn't necessarily have the support of every governing party or to vote as they wish on many of the bills proposed by the opposition. It is not unprecedented in real life, by the way, to have parties of opposing ideologies in a government. Finland, for example, has a government that includes Socialists, Social Democrats, Greens, Liberals and Conservatives. |

Message | Finland does not have the same parliamentary system as we do, they have presidential elections. |
Date | 17:22:27, April 03, 2013 CET | From | De venstregrønne | To | Debating the Left-Liberal Government |
Message | Finland does have a parliamentary system like the other Nordic countries and while the President has power in a number of areas this has little influence over the type of governments the country elects or the policies they pursue. |
Date | 18:05:04, April 03, 2013 CET | From | De venstregrønne | To | Debating the Left-Liberal Government |
Message | I notice by the way that VG and IL have so far voted the same way on 39% of bills. This is admittedly low but not as low as that between SF and UaF who voted the same way on just 31% of bills. In VG's first proposal the lowest compatibility rate between any two parties is 57% (VG and KRP). If you want governments by ideology why not accept that progressive parties got a majority this time instead of trying to form an ideologically incompatible government including SF and UaF? |

Message | Though your statistic between the UaF and the SF is true it should not be compared with DV IL relations. You're party and the IL have been around much longer than us and have more material which those statistics are based on. |
