Message | And do local governments have the money to fund those subsidies? Or will they craft their policy and send the bill to the national government? Or what happens when the local government decide to cut funding to small farmers because they don't think it's worth it? Or to get rid of those freeloading bumpkins? Those subsidies represent a national commitment to protecting the citizens of our country from poverty and ruin. Doing away with them has only one purpose: to remove that protection from those most at need. If the government currently subsidizes all low income farmers, and we then give that choice to local governments, will that increase or decrease the number of farms protected from a bad harvest or downturn? Passing this bill will only decrease the protection granted by the government, and as such we have an ethical and moral obligation to vote it down and affirm our commitment to our citzens. |

Message | We recomend the promotion of CSA's to aid smaller farms with emergency assistance from local governments, and only when all else fails bringing it to a national level. Community Supported Agr. is when locals (broadly speaking OOC: the farm I buy from is 100 miles away) pay a monthly or yearly fee in exchange for a share of the crops. Thus the farms receive a set income regardless of the crop yield. If there is a high surplus it can be sold. Larger farms do not need government intervention as these are run on a corporate model and barring large scale disaster can weather the weather. Local governement ca support the smaller farms in many ways including purchases from them or welfare recepients receive shares, etc. There is no need to bring the entire government and create a large entitiy to handle farm support. |

Message | Since the agricultural sector is about to be collectivised, this bill is completely unnecessary. |
