MessageOut of the question: religion belongs in church and the home, not school. If parents want to give their children a religious education they are still free to do so on their own time.

This is also not a debate that is likely to convert anyone from one side to another, and it is probably best to bring this to a hasty vote rather than allow an impassioned, and fruitless, debate.

MessageSince this would not be required at any school and permitted at only private schools as listed above we do not see the problem of combining the education and religion. These schools will still be required to teach to the standard set by the Min. of Ed., thus there will be no removal of evolution or things of that nature.

MessageThis would happen in private schools anyway PP, that is one of the advantages of private schools and why some people put their children in private schools. (though not the only reason)

In any case, separation of church and state is such a big issue that you're probably not going to get any support on this one. Also, children are already allowed to pray in schools if they want to, for example if you are a religious Muslim, then you may be praying five times a day, and so you would be allowed to.

Having teacher led prayer adds another dimension to the education process. Its not really an issue of civil liberties either, (as before mentioned, kids can already pray on their own if they want to)

there are other problems too. but that is the main one.

MessageAs the FRP quite correctly points out, the question is not of prayer, but of teacher led prayer, which should never be countenanced. A teacher is too much an authority figure for such an endorsement not to carry the full weight of that office.
