Bill: National Government Representation Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unabhängige Sozialkonservative Partei

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3469

Description[?]:

It is the duty of all of the modern Hulstrian parties to try and break the political deadlock that has developed. Elections have been rendered meaningless, and the AGP believes that by reducing the number of available seats a fairer balance of power can be created. Those parties with enough popularity will be able to form a majority government, but if no political force garners enough support from the electorate coalitions can still be created. With the number of political parties competing in elections, this bill should square out political differences into legitimate results.

Message"Really? I think that the political make-up of the Crownlands at the moment is simply producing unworkable hung-parliaments and coalitions which prevents the passing of any significant legislature. Reducing the number of seats does not remove the ability of any particular voter to express their views or retract their democratic mandate - it simply forces political parties contesting seats to argue more fervently for the loyalty of the electorate."

Message"It would also reduce the number of Wahlkreisen even further, diminishing geographic representation and in addition, it would mean an increase in the workload of constituent relations for MdRs, giving them even less time to inform themselves of the interests of their constituents."

Message"Whilst I thank the honorable member from the Vereinigte Bund for his useful comments, I must question the HDV that the AGP believes that perhaps an increase in a MdR's workload is not necessarily a bad thing? This would both increase their effectiveness and only attract the most dedicated members to parliament, and would enable the creation of stable government for the Crownlands. Surely a clear democratic mandate for a presiding government is more important than the opinions of government members who are unprepared to put in the extra effort?"

Message"A smaller number of seats, whilst electing a smaller number of politicians to parliament, increases the mandate of the presiding government by actually granting them a majority if they are strongly enough supported by the electorate. It is our belief that the current number of seats (700) only creates an atmosphere in which coalitions can be formed. As a result, a single voter has a greater contribution to the advancement of national politics. It will, also, be a significant way that we can reduce politicial bureaucracy which can only enhance our national government."

Message'If one receives 51% of the vote in a 700 Seat Parliament they will receive a majority, if they receive 51% in a 400 Seat Parliament then they will receive a majority, the Bund is very much confused as to what on Earth the Avantgarde-Partei is talking about.'

Message"I thank the VB, although I am a little cynical of the views of a 'democratic' anarchist party when it comes to . Whilst it is true in nature that 51% equals 51% in any number of seats in any parliament, the AGP believes that fewer seats creates greater competitiveness to win them. This will enhance the legitimacy of our democracy."

OOC: The AGP takes a harsh tone when it comes to anarchy.

Message"We have made no such promise - we have merely stated that it is our belief that fewer seats allow a greater focus for parties on the electorate. This, in turn, allows the electorate to decide more decisively which party should be fit to govern. If no such party garners such support, then a coalition is on the cards. And, for the reasons we have just and already stated, such a government would have a stronger democratic mandate."
