While it would not be mandatory it would be allowed to those students who wish to do so before the start of the school day. Those not wishing to will not in any way will be forced to do so. It will be up the discression of the Schools Administration and the Teacher themselves. Message | Monsieur le président, We will not support this legislation. Yes, it is the right of any child to engage in religious activity on their own time - but it is not the right of religious professionals to impose their views upon children they are educating. The law as it stands allows schools with an explicitly religious philosophy to hold teacher-led prayers; it is crucial that public schools be kept entirely secular to prevent discrimination against ethnoreligious minority groups. If we allow individual schools to decide their religious philosophy without being registered as chartered religious schools, then we open up our system to abuse by those who would seek to evangelicise the young against their will. We will not compromise on this legislation. Avril Reault Prime Minister |

Message | Honorable Speaker, It is the right of all men and women to worship as they see fit without fear of the Government or of others. It should not be the Governments right to infringe on the rights of others by forcing people especially children to adhear to rules that are put fourth only to hinder religious tolerance. |
