Bill: Television Deregulation Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Democratic Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2051

Description[?]:

It has been three years since the deregulation of radio and as that bill promised the deregulation of television would be looked at at a later date, this bill proposes that:

1. Complete Government control of Television networks cease.

2. Television frequencies be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with provisions being made for ethnic minority groups, Religious groups and any other organisation that the government deems to be worthy of Television representation to buy frequencies at reasonable market prices independent of the auctioning process.

3. The government subsidises a national Television station for educational and informational purposes.

4. Any organisation that is deemed to be worthy of Television representation by the government (such as Ethinic minority groups, religious groups and other organisations that benefit our nation) will have government funding in order to operate a Television station on a continued basis. This funding would continue until the government deems the organisation to be able to run the station by themselves.

MessageTell me, is auctioning television frequencies to the highest bidder your idea of "freedom"? The BTP opposes this bill for obvious reasons, since it would undermine the authority of the State, but we don't see how supposedly "freedom-loving" parties can plan to sell our nation's TV channels to the richest (and therefore most powerful) individuals in Gaduridos, and call it "freedom".
