Message | This bill will make Rutania LESS competitive with other nations. |
Date | 11:35:56, May 19, 2013 CET | From | Workers' Solidarity Movement | To | Debating the Corporation Tax Bill |
Message | Mr Speaker, The flaw in the CWF's thinking is that they consider economic competitiveness as the only measure. By imposing this modest tax, we are seeking to ensure that businesses in Rutania pay their way, just as their workers do. Joshua Torgerson, Solidarity Spokesperson for Finance |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Once again the Left is revealing how truly clueless they are on how the economy works. They have this inherent belief that a tax rate above 0% in a competitive market such as Northern Artania will still make businesses stay in Rutania and that is simply not the case. Message | Mr Speaker, The Gentleman opposite seems to think of Northern Artania as some low-tax paradise. Let me disabuse him of that notion. The majority of nations in Northern Artania have a corporation tax rate of 20% or above. Even if this Bill passes, only Kundrati would have a lower rate than us. The idea of a region competing on tax is myth, Mr Speaker, and the predictions of a mass exodus of businesses are equally a fable. Joshua Torgerson, Solidarity Spokesperson for Finance |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
