Message | Mr. Speaker, the Aliança will not and cannot support this Bill. Why should we enforce a state religion? All people should be free to choose whatever faith they believe in. Promoting any religion as a state religion would only discriminate against all others. The Aliança also believes in the values of technology and progress. As such, with the people who can be helped and saved through stem cell research in mind, we also oppose any restriction of stem cell research. Needless to say, the Aliança will vote against this Bill. I yield the floor. - Sebastià Guixols i Terra, Aliança spokesman for Science and Technology |
Date | 14:55:32, August 06, 2013 CET | From | Republican Party | To | Debating the Morality Act |
Message | The Parti Républicain believes that the state should be associated with a national religion in order to then nurture a strong national culture. We are not forcing all the people to register, which would be discrimination. In this case, the mere existence of a national religion is cannot suffice to be shown as discriminatory. We allow people of all faiths to worship as we please, however, our country is bound to religion through the morality of law, therefore I see no problem with associating our government with a particular religion. Yes, the PR also believes in progress of science and technology so long as it does not cross certain moral boundaries such as cloning, genetic food modification, and yes, stem cell research. We believe that these topics must not be researched because the PR believes that the ends do not justify the means. Though some people may think it will benefit humanity, we believe that it hinders it by trying to research into something we believe is immoral. I yield the floor.
