| King Joshua II has fulfilled his duties admirably and deserves thanks for the lifetime of service he has given to Beiteynu. However, the fact remains that public support for the institution of the monarchy has declined sharply over recent years, and it is therefore appropriate for the Knesset to consider alternative options. As a people, we need something to united us as a figurehead, and if the monarchy can no longer provide that, then we must find something else. One possibility would be to introduce a dual Head of State, shared by the Chief Rabbi and a publicly elected Shophet or chieftain. This would combine the best elements of religious authority and democratic authority, tradition and populism. Working together, the Chief Rabbi and the Shophet could fulfil a vital ceremonial role, providing a focus of unity for the Beiteynuese people, and of stability for the Beiteynuese constitution.
