Message | While we're more generically opposed to everything else, we've vehemently opposed to the libel/slander law changes as it opens the door to politicians suing their opponents into silence and keeping the public from knowing the truth about any indiscretions or actions they've taken. |

Message | On the flip side, other public figures such as celebrities and prominent businessmen will not be able to defend their honour or reputation against attacks by private individuals. It is also unfair to claim that politicians will sue their opponents into silence with these laws: the strong, independent Imperial Courts, the strong sense of fairness held by our Imperial citizens, and the risk of political suicide will keep politicians in line. To address your concerns, however, we are willing to add a provision to this Act: every slander and libel suit by public figures will have to pass through a Freedom of Speech test of some sort. We shall draft this provision when the Kokkai is re-elected. |
