Description[?]:

BRIEF PRE-GAME HISTORY

The cultural identity of Zardugal stems from the Ancient/Early Medieval Augustan Empire (http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Augustan_Empire), based on the Eastern Roman Empire, and which ruled most of the South of the continent. The Augustan Empire lasted until the 15th century CE, when Tokundian and Majatran raids precipitated an eventual collapse. For a while, most of Zardugal was a part of the Ahmadi Caliphate (http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Ahmadi_Caliphate), the equivalent of the Islamic Caliphate, which ruled over much of the continent. During the 16th century, the Kingdom of Zardugal, and its twin Kingdom of Cobura, was born from the ashes of the Augustan Empire, and lasted until 2117, when modern Zardugal was founded.

CULTURE

Zardugal has a culture largely based on the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire, especially in the early stages of its history. Additionally, Zardugal has a number of Coptic, Sub-Saharan African, Slavic, and Central Asian steppe cultural influences.

The Augustans are the descendants of Selucian (Roman) colonists from the north, who initially settled on the shores of the Majatran Sea and later expanded southwards. During the Middle Ages, the Augustans created a powerful and wealthy Empire that left an indelible mark on the land. They have a Byzantine culture and appearance.

The Jelbeks are based on an amalgam of nomadic Eurasian cultures such as the Tatars, Turkics, Mongols and Finno-Ugrics, and they speak Jelbék, a conlang devised solely for the PT world. Jelbeks have a culture vaguely similar to the Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, etc.

The Irkawans and Mallans are two indigenous ethnic groups from the nation of Cobura in the South. The Mallans are based on Ethiopians in culture and appearance, while Irkawans are based on Coptic Egyptians and Nubians in culture and appearance.

The Majatrans resemble real-life Arabs and a significant proportion speak Majatran (Arabic) as a first language. The Majatrans settled in Zardugal in large numbers when its territory was incorporated in the Ahmadi Caliphate.

Deltarians are the dominant group of ethnicities in the nation of Deltaria, and their culture is primarily based on the Tsardom of Russia, the medieval Kingdom of Hungary, the Romanian Principalities (Wallachia and Moldavia), Great Moravia, and the medieval Bulgarian and Serbian Empires, in addition to influences from RL pre-Christian Scandinavia and Anglo-Saxon England.

Apart from Augustan, several other languages are spoken by their respective ethnic groups (Jelbek for Jelbeks, Irkawan for Irkawans, Mallan for Mallans, Majatran for Majatrans, etc.). The "classical" predecessors of those languages (Arcaicam Aùgustanam for Augustan, Ancient Irkawan for Irkawan, Ancient Mallan for Mallan, Old Tokundian for Deltarian Languages, and Classical Majatran for Majatran) although no longer spoken, are sometimes used as languages of prestige and high culture by their respective ethnic groups

MessageIncreasing the Augustans from 22% to 64% is a big step. Would Moderation accept it? If we were do that, we'd probably need to come up with a back-story!

As someone who regrets the lack of African-based cultures in Terra, I'm pleased by the proposed addition of Mallans (Ethiopians).

MessageThe Cultural Protocols mentioned on the debate stage have never been passed. In fact, Zardugal never had mod-approved cultural protocols.

I would be in favour of swapping the numbers for Jelbeks and Mallans, tbh.

MessageHaving checked, I see that you're correct, Polites!

Yep, I'd be happy with boosting the Mallans further. I'm not that keen on the Jelbeks to be honest, cos I can't get to grips with their weird language!!!

Do you think there is a case for pushing one of the minority groups closer to the 20% mark? I'm saying this because that would make it feasible for a party to roleplay a minority party (eg. a Mallan party or a Jelbek party or an Irkawan party or whatever).

Messagebecause of the lack of African cultures in Terra, I'm quite keen on the idea of having the Mallans at 20% or close to 20%. But I don't necessarily expect to get my way on this point, of course :). Let's all have a think...

MessageHmm, Mallans are mostly located in Domale in Cobura, which does not border Zardugal, while Irkawa, the homeland of the Irkawans, does, right next to Kalvere. How about something like 13% Mallans and 10% Irkawans?

ToDebating the OOC: Cultural Protocols for Zardugal
MessageHow about:

Augustans - 59%
Mallans - 24%
Irkawans - 8%
Jelbek - 2%
Majatran - 2%
Deltarian - 2%
Solentian - 2%
Others - 1%

That keeps the Augustans ahead with a clear lead, but has the advantage of making it realistically possible for a player to roleplay a minority Mallan party - something I think would add a lot of fun.

The Zardugal parties are free to ignore all that. Furthermore, if the two remaining raiders don't revert these changes, they'll be banned from Zardugal. Random fact: Particracy does not allow role-play that seems to belong to the world of fantasy, science fiction and futuristic speculation.
