MessageHerr Präsident,

The grid ownership isn't the same thing as the energy supply. The reason we have a private company with all shares owned by the state own the grid just like EisenNet administers the railways is that we don't want commercial concerns to damage consumer Interests In terms of maintenance and efficiency of the network. Private companies do supply and generate energy - they then lease a section of the grid from the grid owner. It's a win-win situation.

MessageHerr Präsident,

Competition is the key for success, as you said grids need efficiency and good maintenance and with one company in charge we don't expect that company to care about the grid's situation. I think we should enact this common sense legislation.

MessageHerr Präsident,

I know many people in my own party will not be particularly supportive of this position of mine, but I believe that competition in the energy branch can be guaranteed through the current policy more effectively than through privatization of the grid. By keeping it in public hands (although, which is important, privately managed and thus protected from exertion of political influence), we can ensure that every private company willing to enter the market can enter the energy sector and is not blocked through the action of energy cartels controlling the grid and thus denying new contenders access to it. We must not only strive to keep the economy in private hands, but also make sure it remains competitive and hospitable to new businesses.

MessageHerr Präsident,

My party opposes the grid being under private ownership, and seeks to return it to public control at the nearest opportunity. We are opposing this Bill on the grounds that it would probably make renationalisation more complicated and expensive.
