Bill: Smoking Act 3622

Details

Submitted by[?]: Nationales Bürgerforum (NBF)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 3622

Description[?]:

An Act to repeal the prohibition on smoking in places of employment not operated by the government

Herr Präsident, as mature adults, the people of Hulstria and Gao-Soto do not need a meddlesome, paternalistic government telling them whether or not they should let people smoke on properties they own. They are clever enough to make decisions of this nature without some remote bureaucrat dictating down their neck, and those that support these sorts of regulations have nothing but contempt for the intelligence of the average Crownlander.

MessageOOC: That's supposed to be spoken by Edith Strötzel, BTW. And I will try in future to put bill names in German.

MessageHerr Präsident,

I reject the unhealthy populist rabble-rousing that is being perpetrated by Frau Strötzel - my issue is not with the health risks to the individual, though that would be reason enough to at least try to discourage smoking, but to the health of those around smokers, which is adversely affected without their own choice. Hence it is not merely a matter of choice for the individual and I reject Frau Strötzel's attempt to cast the issue as such.

MessageHerr Präsident,

may I point out that our last review of smoking laws implemented liberalizations for cafés and the like authorizing them to allow smoking if they want to? We are trying to find a sensible balance between valid considerations of public health and private autonomy, and have not succumbed to paternalism as Frau Strötzel is suggesting. Thanks to the LVP, smoking will remain a part of gastronomical life, but in a way that does not inflict excessive damage upon the health of non-smokers and employees.

MessageHerr Präsident,

It would be interesting to know whether the NBF are in receipt of any political donations from the big cigarette companies.

MessageHerr Präsident, we believe that employers should be free to choose whether or not their premises are smoking premises or non-smoking premises. The government does not own these workplaces, and there is nobody forcing you to work in a company where management permits smoking.

In response to the question from the Leader of the Opposition, I would like to table a list of all corporate donors who have contributed more than a cumulative total of 500 crowns to the NBF.

MessageHerr Präsident,

Then perhaps the NBF are the subject of corporate brainwashing as opposed to corporate bribery.

MessageHerr Präsident, I consider the exasperating stupidity and impertinence of that entirely groundless response undeserving of the dignity of a response.
