Bill: Schulgesetz 3636
Details
Submitted by[?]: Nationales Bürgerforum (NBF)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 3636
Description[?]:
Herr Präsident, it is abundantly clear that adults - yes, adults - above the age of eighteen should have the right to choose whether or not they wish to remain in the education system. While we are acutely aware of the great importance of education and the advantages that it brings, many young adults will have good reason to believe that they will derive more benefit from finding a job. Given that they know the most about their own circumstances, it is only reasonable that we recognise that they are best placed to make that decision. This government therefore proposes to reduce the school leaving age to eighteen. Klaus Zinnberger MdR Minister for Education |

Message | Herr Präsident, it will come as no surprise to this house that the NBF is profoundly disappointed by the decision of the HDV to obstruct this common-sense reform. It is patently ridiculous to say that adults who can drink and drive (not at the same time, of course) and vote should be told whether they should go to school or get a job by a paternalistic, overbearing government. I urge the HDV to reconsider its decision to vote against this legislation, and I further urge the HDV to reflect on the possibility that the outcome of the last election, in relation to that party, was in substantial part due to its inability to recognise the inherently superior position of individuals in making decision of a personal nature. Message | Herr Präsident, We agree that it is not in the interests of every young person to remain in full-time, formal, compulsory education up until the age of 21. However, reducing the school age must not be used as an excuse to cut back on education services. We need to provide these young people with jobs, vocational training and other worthwhile opportunities. Hertha Kolbe MdR Minister of Health & Social Services Chairwoman of Solidarity |

Message | Herr Präsident, the legislation before the house today is in no way mutually incompatible with the proposals of my colleague [Kolbe], and of course this government remains committed to maintaining a high standard of educational attainment regardless of the school leaving age.
