Bill: Syndicalist Minority Government, 3643

Details

Submitted by[?]: Beluzian Syndicalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 3644

Description[?]:

(OOC: Since the game doesn't model the resignations of defeated cabinets, I propose this "Cabinet" as an interim for role playing purposes, to be superceded by the first proper Cabinet Proposal with majority support. Under Beluzia's current constitution, Cabinet ministers serve at the pleasure of the Grand Consul.)

MessageCould I stress to the players blindly voting "no" without reading the bill description, the terms "OOC (Out Of Character)" and "interim".

This is an attempt to inject some realism into the game. Since we clearly have an utterly broken elections algorithm which functions more as a random number generator, we can at least salvage something plausible from the main legislative side of Particracy.

Since proper coalition proposals may take a number of game-months to finalise, it makes more sense that Beluzia default to a minority government of the largest party in the interim, as would happen in any real world legislature with an Executive HoS.

(Incidently, if anyone's interested in the "Trigger's New Broom" ("Theseus' Ship" if you went to a posh school) phenomenon in action, have a look at the regional churn in the recent election results:

I'm not even the same party any more...
