MessageTechnology should be protected by patent law not copyright. If we ignore that oversight - then yes, we must allow patents. Firstly, because I would be out of a job as a patent lawyer if there was no such thing and secondly because no inventor would ever disclose his invention if it could be copied - he would keep it secret.
