Message | As you probably have guessed, we are opposed. We believe that the best balance between employers and employees is as follows: "Employees have the right to strike, but the employer also has the right to fire. Of course if the strike is reasonable, then the employees will be in a position to collectively bargain. But companies need to run and they can't afford to seek government approval everytime a worker makes ridiculous demands. Workers should be treated fairly, but not extravagantly". We are opposed to secondary strike action; strictly speaking, we are okay with it, but we consider it a "strike for unreasonable reasons", thereby giving the employer the right to fire such individuals for going on strike. But this option does not exist. |

Message | Mr.Speaker, On this occasion I agree with the Wildrose Alliance, it is up to the company and the manager to enforce their disciplinary procedures. Prehaps this bill highlights the need to bring in laws regarding unfair dismissal. But this party will be voting no, due to the fact that people can walk out in sympathy, when it should be the fact that people let the employers know at least 24 hours to inform them of industrial action. Also, we oppose given that the employers have had rights taken away from them, when it comes to dismissal of an employee. We do however support the need for laws regarding unfair dismissal and what can be done. |
