Message | Mr. Speaker, The Republicans must object to the current 'just say no' policy that the government seems to have about some of our important reforms. We continue to have our eye on the long term future of Rutania, and as part of that, we are committed to sustainable commercial fishing practices in the decades to come. Three of our five provinces directly border the ocean. Two do not. Why would we have local government laws to measure a stretch which doesn't even effect some of the provinces, and for those that it does cover, has no discernible border between them? The water, and the species who live in it, don't change just because the land opposite to it is in Ardinia instead of Khodor. We should have one law, scientific in basis, to make sure that we have best practice policies in all water that our nation is fortunate to enjoy. A bad policy from Ardinia can sneak through and the poison the water opposite Khodor and even Delvar. Worst still, the people of Kragusrov and Bozarland who rely on the products from those oceans, will have no say whatsoever to stop that poisoning at all. A national law is much harder to sneak through, especially while the Republicans exist. We pledge to assure a scientific, sustainable fishing plan for Rutania. Will the government? Message | Mr. Speaker, We take this pledge, which is why we will defend the current law. What is being overlooked is that there is in fact some variation in species, and there is variation in the populations of species in that region. A fish may have a strong population off the coast of Ardinia but be wavering in Delvar. And Obviousely there are lakes and rivers in the two land-locked provinces, fishing quotas would still apply. Your "sustainable fishing plan",therefore, would be detrimental to the environment. We cannot support it. -William Lansing Party Chairman,UP |
