Bill: Free Contraception Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: People's Democratic Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 3659
Description[?]:
We propose that government provides free contraceptives. Young people, many often dependants under 18 are most vulnerable to the negative consequences of sexual intercourse. Such consequences will ultimately prove to be a great societal and financial burden on the nation. It is also these same young people who may not have enough money of their own or are uneasy to use their guardian's money on contraceptives, despite its subsidisation. I therefore propose the government offer free contraceptives which has generally proven to be a cost-effective measure of dealing with burdens caused by the family and health issues involved in this matter. Minister for Health and Social Services Heather Myers |

Message | We will support this we agree in nature, we have concerns if this will turn into cost saving way. If I may request that Minister Myers give us a spending report on the program within a year to see if the funding is worthy of the program. Thank you - Prime Minister Mike Owens |

Message | They are "vulnerable to the negative consequences of sexual intercourse" you say. But they don't have to have it. Why should we encourage a moocher class of citizens who is not held accountable for their actions at the expense of hard-working honest taxpayers. This is incredulous. They are already subsidised and that is more than generous; we believe that this currently strikes the right balance between the social costs of unwanted pregnancies and STDs versus the burden on the taxpayer. Will repeal whenever I have the votes. |

Message | The PDP recognises human nature and that young people err. Rather than pretending young people won't engage in sexual intercourse, we'd rather take the pragmatic course and give them the best possible chance to prevent them from erring and taking the risk. It takes only one green couple to think they need not waste their limited money or avoid the embarrassment of buying over the counter, to present society with a significant financial burden due to an unwanted pregnancy or STD. |
Date | 20:16:43, April 30, 2014 CET | From | Phillipsian Party of Aloria | To | Debating the Free Contraception Act |
Message | We will support this measure, as we in the Phillipsian Party believe in practicing safe sex, and for the government to provide the means to do so. -Annie Hunt, Phillipsian Party Spokesperson for Health and Social Services |
