Bill: Separation of Church and State

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lutte Féministe de Libération

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2169

Description[?]:

Because it is the strong belief of the Kingdom of Rildanor that religion and government must be kept completely separate in their affairs, the Kingdom of Rildanor will no longer attempt to collect taxes from any group or organization dedicated to the non-profit worship of any religion, and will no longer maintain that churches must keep silent on any issues (namely political affairs) lest they face punitive actions by the state (use of taxation, etc).

MessageYou have to add a Proposal with this bill. You can do so by clicking on the "Proposal" link at the bottom of this page and search for the collection of taxes law that invovles religious groups.

MessageSorry, I didn't understand that you had to attach a proposal. However, while looking through all the government positions I discovered we have an official state religion, so I'm proposing that we no longer have a state religion and separate the two bodies permanently.

MessageWe will vote against this. The official state religion is Catholicism, and uh....heh.

MessageWe do not believe the people are best served by raising any religion to a high level of prominence. Religion is not well served by declaring one religion more important than another either.

MessageMembership is voluntary anyways so we see no need to change the status quo.

Alrighty then....

Voluntary or not I don't think we should have a state religion. It sends a message of intolerance that we can not afford.

MessageBacking up the Liberal Monarchist Party and the Rildanor Catholic Party here. We disagree about a so called message of intolerance it might send, because we are not being intolerate of other religions at all. As the Liberal Monarchist Party said, membership is voluntary.

MessageYes but it gives off the message as we don't regard everyone as equals, we regard Catholics more highly than people from other religions.

MessageAbsolutly not. Whatever gives you that idea? We have no laws giving benefits to people who are member of the state religion, nor does it have any further consequences. Everybody has the freedom to be a member of whatever religion they like, and the same holds true for the state, does it not?

MessageNo, because the state should be the creation of all the people, and should serve all of them equally. It does not, nor should it, function as a separate entity with rights of its own. It has only one obligation, to serve ALL of the people.
