MessageThe AAS doesn't see how either of these measures - both of which only affect people AFTER they have been tried for a crime - can possibly address our crime rates?

We are not necessarily against making convicts work 'for their keep'... OR against limiting the avenues to appeals. We just don't see how they are relevent to the stated agenda of the bill?

MessageRegarding Article 2, prison is prison. While the JLP in no way supports inhumane or cruel treatment, it does recognize that people are in prison for a nasty reason. As we do not believe in the death penalty as a deterrent, we seek other methods to make prison a place one wants to avoid, again without being cruel or inhumane.

Regarding Article 1, instead of filling the dockets of appeals courts, prisoners may appeal to a different branch of the government for review. This allows, at least in theory, a "checks and balances" system to work to ensure justice, rather than place everything in one government branch.

MessageThe AAS is actually inclined to support... we still do not really see these policies as consistent with the stated language of the bill, however.

MessageWe see advantages to repealing the automatic right of appeal and consequently clogging up the courts with vexatious appeals. We also beleive that prisoners have a 'right' to repay their debt to society, and support article 2.
We are happy to support this motion.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
