MessageMr Speaker,

I find it hilarious yet frightening, that a party labelling itself as liberal openly puts a bill before us, that would in practice re-introduce slavery on a national, state-sponsored basis. This party should be barred from entering parliament.

George Xenophon,
CDE spokesperson

MessageMr. Speaker,

Prisoners who are idle are far more likely to cause problems than those who are engaged in productive work. Without prison labor, the state is forced to hire outside employees to perform basic functions of the prison such as food preparation and laundry. Why is it that Mr. Xenophon would have the state pay more money for prisoners to lie idle? It is unfortunate that his hyperbole has appeared to cause certain parties to vote differently on this issue than they did just a few years ago.
