Bill: Progressive Reform Bill - Freedom Of Movement
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2167
Description[?]:
We propose an end to a needless ban on private vehicles that don't run on environmentally-friendly fuels. Not all people have access to public transportation and "environmentally-friendly-fueled" vehicles tend to be prohibitively expensive to purchase and maintain thus denying the working classes freedom of movement. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning private cars.
Old value:: Only cars using environmentally friendly fuels are allowed.
Current: Private cars are allowed, but people are encouraged to travel collective and tax incentives are provided for cars using environmentally friendly fuels.
Proposed: Private cars are allowed, but people are encouraged to travel collective and tax incentives are provided for cars using environmentally friendly fuels.

Message | JLP supports. While we would like to see even broader strokes to deregulation, this is definitely better than the status quo. |

Message | Collective travel need not mean public transport (eg car pooling). Providing tax breaks makes environmentally friendly cars more affordable, not less. We oppose. |

Message | The AAS has to argue against the Progressive Party, here. The ONLY reason that alternative fuel vehicles have been expensive, is because the market has been more than flooded with conventional-fuel vehicles. Since the introduction of the green-fuel limitations, it is AAS understanding that the cost of green fuels has dropped considerably, and many automakers have actually been performing 'green' conversions on Likatonian cars, to enable vehicles to run on green fuels. AAS scientists inform us that there is no greater cost in maintainence on a green vehicle... indeed, they cite reports that show that ecologically-sound fuels actually cause less contamination of components, for example. Market forces ARE at work here... they are equalising the market on a new, non-petroleum, basis. |

Message | The RLP supports this return to market based environmentalism, rather than the regulatory based which is currently in place. |

Message | The AAS would like to point out to the RLP that they have cast a vote for nothing like a "return to market based environmentalism". Almost all vehicles in Likatonia conform to current fuel laws. Which means that practically every vehicle is now configured to run green fuels. What the RLP HAS voted for, then - is to give incentives to ALL cars (since they are all green), and further incentives to those who 'travel collective'... despite the fact that our current fuels are not the environmental danger fules once were. |
