Details

Submitted by[?]: Radical Alliance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3733

Description[?]:

Mr Speaker,

We would like that our military shrunk in size and in authority so that we can keep it on a shorter leash. We therefor propose this bill, which will create better relations to other countries as well as sparing some money.

MessageMadam Speaker, first of all civilian service has nothing to do with the military. Second of all it is inadvisable to limit our intelligence gathering operations as this would more than likely have the opposite effect as intended by not allowing us to participate as effectively in the delicate balance that is the intelligence gathering game. Lastly M.A.D. is a proven way to prevent nuclear annihilation limiting our ability to use nuclear weapons also limits our effectiveness in using that stratagem.

For these reasons the Federalist party must vote no on this measure.

Madam Speaker,

Civilian service is indeed a non-military service, but it does however belong to the defence sector and this is why we chose to include the abolishment of it in this bill. Civilian service is after all curbing everyone's freedom. We should simply not force people to serve a term in the civilian service - they should rather be out getting a higher education or a job.

We don't understand why we must conduct all sorts of intelligence operations in other countries. The main priority of an intelligence agency would be to protect our country from terrorism and not create bad relations with the countries around us.

And we simply don't understand the federalists point of view on nuclear weaponry. Nuclear weapons should never have been a part of our nation's policy since it only brings misery. And using nuclear weapons to win a war will not justify all the deaths of civilians and the environment where the weapons have been used.

MessageMadam Speaker,

We would like to point out to the RA that in fact civilian service is not part of the defense sector and is more about maintaining our nations infrastructure and providing public services. As for their point about higher education we would also like to point out that this nation provides college level education for all of it's citizens.

Passive intelligence gathering is usually not as effective as active intelligence. As for the point that it would create bad relations this is in error as most generally active intelligence operations are conducted in nations that are already either directly or indirectly working against us.

Lastly Mutually Assured Destruction is a proven way of preventing nuclear war if it is truly the preservation of civilian life and the environment you seek than our ability to use the M.A.D. doctrine is imperative.

MessageMadam Speaker,

We very know this very well, but it should not be a job for those who do not wish to do so. Public services should be done by professionals - not amateurs. But I don't understand your point on higher education? The law currently says that everyone who is done with schooling must serve a term in civil service, which means that people won't be able to continue through the education system nor get at job.

It isn't passive intelligence since we will keep on conduction surveillance operations on other countries - we just won't be going further than that. It will also give us more resources to fight terrorism inside our own country. It seems as if the federalists would like us to be the world's bulldog, but this is not something our country should strive for since it only creates rather bad relations with the rest of the world.

And if a country really wants to destroy us than they will - no matter if we have or don't have nuclear weaponry. It is a rather bad argument. We should rather invest in good relations with the rest of the world than in nuclear weaponry.

OOC: Would "completion of schooling" mean completion of high school? Because you could - in principle - never be done with school. It would e.g. be weird to force a newly hatched PhD graduate into doing civil service when he rather should be out working in his area of expertise.

MessageOOC: The way it works currently I believe is that school is mandatory until the age of 21 leaving the last year of college optional (this is do more in part to the way the game is setup) and the afterwards is when a person would take part in civil service.
