Message | Madam Speaker: Our nation cannot be allowed to trade with a nation which uses forced labour to gain economic might. Such behaviour cannot, and will not be tolerated by the international community. Because of this, we have taken the advice of Minister of Foreign Affairs Madam Hillary Roosevelt and have called for the ratification of this embargo. Therefore we beg anyone within the Congress with a conscience to recognize the need for action on behalf of the international community in stepping up and stopping this atrocity. |
Date | 04:42:16, October 08, 2014 CET | From | Federal Heritage Party of Hutori | To | Debating the Ratification of the Trade Embargo on the Holy Luthori Empire |
Message | Madam Speaker, While we agree that action should be taken we would like to see proof of misconduct and would also advise not taking action unilaterally. Perhaps with a little evidence and a show of international support we might be persuaded to support this bill. However, until then we must vote no. Charles Carmichael Party Leader Federalist Party OOC: I don't know how this would affect the RP side of thing as I believe that Hutorians are Immigrants from Luthori. However, I don't know very much on the topic. |

Message | Madam Speaker, While we condemn the means by which the Holy Luthori Empire sustains their economy, it would be economically unwise to cut off all trade relations and agree to this treaty, especially when the parties proposing it have yet to move for ratification. Furthermore, the vast majority of people in Hutori are descended from Luthori colonists that founded our nation, and all of our government affairs are still conducted in their language. Their monarchy is also the same one that has ruled Hutori intermittently since its founding. OOC: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=414645 <Cultural Protocols for statistics http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=384694 <Even if we oppose their slavery the best we are likely to get is a moderate conservative in power due to the RP for that nation. Now, I've only ever heard of this happening once, but I believe that players who try to sabotage the RP/ culture in a nation break some sort of rule. For example, everyone here may agree on forming a Republic, but if that was attempted in Luthori it may cause conflict. My point is that if we approve this, we are essentially cutting ties with a nation that most of our population has ties to, which is highly unrealistic barring any sort of military conflict. To those who aren't really understanding this, it would be like Brazil (who abolished slavery in 1831) placing an embargo on Portugal for continuing slavery when the two are culturally and politically close and had been for some time. |

Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that. |
