Bill: "For The Children" Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Democracy Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 3749

Description[?]:

This bill was created by the Social Democracy Party with the intent of improving the quality of our children's education, as well as health. It includes:
* The banning of homeschooling, where the parents might indoctrinate them with false information;
* Ending mandatory prayer in schools, wich goes against the religious freedom of innocent children;
* Mandatory vaccination of children to keep them safe from diseases, independent of the parents' beliefs since children are human beings and not their parents' property.

MessageThe AM RLP cannot stand idly by and allow this trampling upon of the rights of parents to teach their own children in a manner acceptable to them. What evidence can be offered that the false information given by parents in the home is any less damaging than the false information given in schools? What evidence can you offer to support the position that prayer in a religious school, in which the parents have knowingly and voluntarily placed their children, is in any way harmful to anyone? The third article is marginally acceptable, if one can be absolutely certain that the vaccination program is safe and necessary.

MessageThe SDP is willing to give up on the ban of homeschooling as long as the ban on prayer in school stays. The reasoning is simple, some children might not agree with the religious beliefs of the parents, and thus of the religious school they're in (we'll assume the parents agree with the school's beliefs, dismissing the possibility that they chose the school because of its quality, in spite of its religious nature).
This is a right no matter your age, the children can have thoughts of their own since they're human beings and not their parents' property. By having school prayers, the child would be forced, if not officially then by peer pressure, to conform to beliefs and practices they do not agree with. Besides, it's a waste of time that could be spent on actually teaching.
The students still have the right to pray on their own, as long as it does neither get in the way of the other students' learning nor coerce others to be part of it.

As far as Article 3 goes, we simply believe that the child's health and safety comes before their parents' beliefs. There is no credible scientific evidence against vaccination.

MessageArticle 1, which used to be Article 3, is acceptable, as the AM RLP presumes that any vaccination program would be adequately tested before using it on children. The other two, however, are unacceptable. The concept of banning prayer in a religious school is too extreme for us; prayer is an integral part of many religions. We were a strong proponent in banning it in non-religious schools for the reasons you gave above, but religion and prayer are so interrelated as to be inseperable.

MessageWe agree on removing Articles 2 & 3, which we agree might be too extreme. We will keep the vaccination proposition and start the voting procedure now.
