Bill: OOC: Cultural Protocols Update

Details

Voting deadline: July 3750

Description[?]:

This bill is created in order to protect the Aldegarian culture from radical and unrealistic changes, in conformity to game rules (cf. http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4374).

BRIEF PRE-GAME HISTORY
The ancestors of today’s Aldegarians, a part of the Ezadi (RL Iranian) group, seem to have been the first human inhabitants of Central Seleya. Throughout its history, Aldegar was the birthplace of two of the largest Terran religions, Yazdism (RL Zoroastrianism) and Daenism (RL Buddhism), as well as the centre of a series of large continent-spanning empires. Aldegar also experienced periods of foreign rule, most notably by the Mu-Tze Khanate (RL Mongol Empire) during Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages. Later, Hosianism (RL Christianity) was introduced to the nation from Al'Badara, becoming the largest minority religion. Aldegar was ruled as a shahdom until 2042, with the founding of the First Republic.

CULTURE
Aldegar is based on a theoretical/alternate Iran without Islam and with much smaller Arabic and Turkic influence. Thus Aldegar’s main cultural influences are Persia under Sassanid, Samanid, Ilkhanate (Mongol), Safavid, and Pahlavi rule, as well as contemporary Iran and the Greater Iran region.

The largest ethnic group in Aldegar is the Ezadi peoples, who are formed of Aldegarians and several related groups, and who are the indigenous inhabitants of Aldegar. Ezadis constitute the majority ethnicity in all of Aldegar’s regions. They are based on contemporary Iranian peoples in culture and appearance.

The Mu-Tze, an ethnicity spread throughout much of the continent, arrived in Aldegar when its territory was incorporated in the Mu-Tze Khanate. They live predominantly in the north of the country, in Hikirena and Amuro. They are based on Mongols in culture and appearance.

The Majatrans and Cildanians arrived in Aldegar with the introduction of Hosianism (Christianity) during the Middle Ages. They live primarily in the west of the country. Majatrans and Cildanians in Aldegar have been largely assimilated within the Hosian Aldegarian community, but many continue to preserve their language and customs. They are based on Arabs and Syriacs/Assyrians, respectively, in culture and appearance.

The most widely practiced religion in Aldegar is Yazdism, a religion founded in 710 BCE by Aldegarian prophet Shapur, and centred around belief in the Eternal Fire, considered to be the "soul" of the world, and following a system of morality whereby humanity has the duty to fight against the forces of darkness through “good thoughts, good words, and good deeds”. The most followed Yazdean denomination in Aldegar is Ahadism, a monotheistic belief system that considers Yazdān (God) to be the omniscient and omnipotent creator of the universe, including the evil spirit Duzakh. Ahadism is predominantly followed by Aldegarians and Mu-Tze. Zamānism is a minority branch of Yazdism that is characterized by strict dualism between the good and evil spirit, and which places much emphasis on asceticism and non-violence. Zamānism is more prevalent among minority Ezadis and the Ikpi, as well as smaller numbers of Aldegarians, but it is frequently discriminated against. Nonetheless, Zamānis are frequently overrepresented within the economic and political elite of the country.

The second largest religion in Aldegar is Hosianism, a religion founded in 1 CE which believes Eliyahu of Yishelem to be the Spirit of God and the Saviour of mankind. The largest Hosian denomination is the Aldegarian Apostolic Church, an autocephalous (independent) member of the Apostolic Church of the East. Hosianism is primarily followed by Aldegarians, Majatrans, and Cildanians.

Daenism is a religion that was born in Aldegar in the 2nd century CE as a sect within Zamānism, and which later spread Terra-wide, becoming one of the largest Terran religions.

Rowshanism is a new religion founded in 3736, based on the belief that Mihryazd, a 38th century Aldegarian, is the Mihr (Saoshyant+Maitreya), fulfilling eschatological expectations of other Aldegarian religions. Rowshanism follows a hedonistic and altruistic ethic, with an emphasis on radical egalitarianism.

MessageAdded a small number of Rowshanis (current number is definitely much higher, but I don't want to pass a new CP every few years, and many adherents will likely revert to their previous religions once the movement dies out), and renamed the Kurds as Bihezis (I have no idea how I got to give them the name of a RL Indian ethnic group).
