Bill: Media Laws - 3754
Details
Submitted by[?]: Great National Republican Guard
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 3756
Description[?]:
It is impossible for an unpopular government to exist in Lodamun's political system. Every government is subject to the approval of Lodamun's democratically-elected Presidium. As it stands now, the private media represents the private interests of the owners of the media institutions. We must also beware of foreign efforts to destabilise us. We can trust the Presidium to represent the interests of the masses. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, "Freedom of speech" will be even greater, since the media will be owned by the people, and regulated by their democratically-elected representatives. We must recognise the fact that "freedom of speech" and "freedom of the private press" are 2 different things entirely. The private press does not have the interests of the general public at heart. The private press will suit the interests of the wealthy press owners, not the citizens. That is undemocratic. -- Gordon Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG, President of Lodamun |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Again... this does not violate freedom of speech. There is a fundamental difference between "freedom of speech" and "freedom of press" and freedom of speech will still exist in Lodamun. I ensured to avoid criminalising blasphemy against the state, so that citizens may still freely criticize the state. The most effective way to criticize the state, however, is through MPs. Lodamun has a Socialist government, and that may result in the anger of the wealthy who want to remain in a certain socio-economic position of power and justification of inflated ego. They would naturally sabotage Lodamun by publishing damaging comments about the state, which are intended to anger and manipulate the people instead of actually fixing the problems. The people's problems can be fixed when they communicate with their MPs, not when they read propaganda spread by wealthy persons with specific interests. -- Gordon Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG, President of Lodamun |
