Bill: Revised Smoking Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Blobs
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2054
Description[?]:
This bill recognises the many studies that have shown that smoking can cause serious health risks to those who do it and those around them. It also recognises that if the proposed national health service is formed then it would be flooded by people suffering from the ill effects of smoking. This bill also recognises that as long as people have access to tobacco they will smoke and destroy their health. We therefore propose that banning smoking of tobacco and and any tobacco related products is the only way to prevent our citizens from suffering from the tobbaco related illnesses. To aid those who already smoke there would be free nictotine patches and similar items to remove their addictions so they can return to non-smoking life. |

Message | We dot not accept to this repressive measure. As I said before: things that are forbidden only become more attractive. What is the next step ?? Banning alcohol ?? It is mostly unhealthy too. But a higher output of pollution can be unhealthy for the populace too, yet there are those among thee that want to lower the restrictions on this matter. It shows perfectly where the United Blobs stand: they want to look out after our health, as long as it doesn't damage the profits of the capitalist industries too much - it shows perfectly where these typical so-called progressive parties stand, when it comes down to real things they are pro big buiseness. |

Message | No way. We will never support such a proposal. Banning the sale and consumption of tobacco will create a black market where it cannot be regulated. |

Message | @Socialists - Alcohol is much less damaging to people's health than tobacco so we have plans to ban it. If we were 'pro big business' we would make to acco legal for all to help the tobacco giants improve their profits - i.e. the opposite of what we're doing |

Message | Alcohol may be less damaging to the health but it is non-theless damaging. The fact that you do not support the tobacco industry, is only a sign the tobacco industry forgot to buy its way into Hobrazia. Other companies didn't forget, so you and the We Say So Party! are willing to lower the pollution restrictions standards for them. I know how modern-day social-democracy works, play the progressive role and because of it be able to be more neo-liberal than the openly neo-liberal parties. I recognize it and warn for the dangers, for they are great. |

Message | Alcohol has been proven to have medical benefits, when drunk in moderation. Smoking and tobacco products have no such benefits. Contrary to the popular belief of the Socialist Party the WSS!P has never, nor has any intention of, having any industry "buy its way in", rather we support laws that have the health of the population in mind. And in respect to the pollution laws, we have only accepted those modifications until we can be sure of what economic position and industry this Country has and until we know, it would be unwise to set up targets that would be nigh on impossible to hit and still improve our economy, unless you have a magic wand you can wave that would provide excellent health, full employment and a growing economy? |
