Message | We are surprised that the DSP is voting against this cabinet. You stand to gain control over the Justice Ministry (one of Big Five appointments), as well as several ministries suited to your political message. Our reasoning in choosing which positions to offer: Foreign Affairs we felt was absolutely necessary to persecuting the internationalist agenda we have planned for this term, especially as the DSP has previously torpedoed treaty legislation which we've brought to a vote. Finance/Trade and Industry/ Infrastructure are areas with regard to which our two parties differ more than anywhere else. We believe in generally laissez-faire economics, and you believe in Socialism and governmental intervention. Also, we intend to curb union's strike rights - a position so far from your own that we could not ask you to enforce it as the leader of these two ministries. Defense has always been far more of an NRP priority than a DSP one - you opposed our policies with regard to chemical/nuclear weapons and landmines. Also, you took no steps in your budget to increase defense spending - a core National Republican concern. Thus, we could not have you in control of defense in our government. Education/Health are another area of differences. In your Health Care policies, as well as the Welfare Act that you signed last term are clear signs that our differences on these issues are perhaps irreconcilable. Our privatization policy is the polar opposite of your state-controlled policies. While we eagerly want cooperation, and are open to some negotiation with regard to the Cabinet, we must stress the electorate elected a NRP President and gave the NRP a 15-seat majority in Parliament. Our policies have been given a mandate and we will not allow those policies to be directly contradicted by our own minister. Please respond with any counter-proposal that you see fit. We are open to some negotiation, but will not be able to concede too much. If an agreement is not reached by June we will, for the sake of the Republic and with definite regret, approve an all-NRP cabinet. We await your response, Nicholas C. Monaco President of the Republic of Telamon and Leader of the National Republicanism Party |
