Bill: OOC: Proposed Update to the Beiteynu Cultural Protocals - 3804

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Beiteynu Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 3806

Description[?]:

==Introduction==

I have discussed on the forum and the following ( http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=346077 ) is the “current” Cultural protocol for Beiteynu. However it is over 500 years old and contains many inaccuracies such as the inclusion of an “Arab” population and the exclusion of ethnic Pnteks, who have always been RP’d as a minor ethnic group in Beiteynu.

I believe it is time for an update, taking on board the work in progress documents in our debating area (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=350468 dated June 3317 and http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=420609 dated December 3749). Naturally this should involve discussion rather than being a one party affair that has previously been the case.

I hope this is seen as amore detailed attempt than previous attempts to account for the cultural background of Beiteynu. Its Yeudish character is confirmed, but plenty of room is made for the cultural diversity that exists in northern Majatra and that has been RP’d throughout the history of Beiteynu.

As a guide I have used the following;

The current Cultural Protocal for Beiteynu - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=346077

And the Cultural Protocals for our neighbours, Pontesi - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=426981 and Barmenia - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=427411 as they will have a significant influence on Beiteynu and its minority populations.

==Cultural Protocals==

This bill is created in order to protect Beiteynu from radical and unrealistic changes, in conformity to game rules (cf. http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4374).

==Culture==

Beiteynu has a religious Yeudish (Jewish) majority, with Hosian (Christian) and Ahmadi (Muslim) minorities. Shultzism also developed as a liberal fusion of Yeudism, Hosianism and Ahmadism, and has a small following in Beiteynu, particularly in urban areas. In terms of ethnicity Beiteynu has a Yeudish (Jewish) majority with minorities of Beta Yishelem (Black Jews), Luthorians, Seleucians, Pntek, Brmek, Majatrans, Arev Mardik and Kathurans. As such Beiteynu can be roleplayed as a multicultural nation and is open to parties of all religious faiths and none, but it must be remembered that Beiteynu was founded as a Yeudish state, but is also the historic home of Hosianism, having been founded here in the first century CE.

Beiteynu is based on modern Israel, with influence from modern Europe and North America and cultural influence from others nations in the Middle East. Beiteynu has a varied political culture and at times, Zionists, Conservatives, Socialists and Hosians have dominated with the country switching between democratic and non-democratic periods.

==Terminology==

The terminology below provides useful RL examples of the various religious and ethnic groups in Beiteynu.

ETHNICITY-

Yeudis= Jews, mostly Qedarites(semitic)/Artanian(European), but including;
-- Beta Yishelem = Black Jews
Selucians = Romans
Luthorians = British
Jelbics = Central Asians / Eurasian Steppe Peoples
-- Brmek = Brmék-speaking Jelbics, with Semitic and Persian influences
-- Pntek = Pnték-speaking Jelbics with hints of Armenian traditions
Majatrans = Arabs
Arev Mardik (Minority in Pontesi) = Armenians
Kathurans (Minority in Barmenia) = Assyrians/Syriacs/Arameans/Chaldeans
Other - A mix of individuals from various countries that have migrated to Beiteynu. Probably smaller than reality, but it is likely that those from minor ethnic groups may have been absorbed into the larger ethnic groups, hence Artanians into the Luthorians, or other Jelbic peoples into the Pntek and Brmek. Yeudish immigrants from Terra are easily absorbed into the Yeudish ethnic group.

RELIGION

Illustrated Catalogue of Religion - http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Illustrated_Catalogue_of_Religion

Yeudism = Judaism
Hosianism = Christianity
-Apostolic Church of the East = (Eastern Rite), which consists of;
--- Hobrazian Orthodox Church = Armenian rite
--- Barmenian Apostolic Church = Eastern Rite Churches
- Selucian Patriarchal Church = Roman Catholic rite
- Holy Luthori Church = Anglican Rite
- Oseyim (Ebionite) = http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Oseyim
- Other = Terran and Theognosian Patriarchal Churches
Shultzism = A liberal fusion of Yeudaism, Hosianism and Ahmadism - http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Terran_Union_for_Schultzism
Ahmadism = Islam
-- Queranzariah/Israism = Sunni
-- Abadism = Shia
Other - A mix of very minor religions, or of those with no religion.

==Brief History==

Beiteynu is a nation in north-western Majatra that has historically been the centre of the Yeudish faith in Terra (please see http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Yeudism ). The Yeudish people arrived in the area in around 500 BCE, following the revelations received by Ariel in Cildania that led to the development of Yeudism (please see http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_Majatra and http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_Beiteynu ).

The Yeudish people maintained a territorial independence in an area that covers modern Beiteynu until the 1500’s when the area was absorbed into the Pontesian Empire, before reasserting independence again in the 1960’s. This period led to the exodus of many Yeudish people to other areas in Terra.

From 2823-2863 the ( http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Kingdom_of_Yishelem ) was established in Beiteynu by Hosian Crusaders from Luthori, Deltaria and other areas. This led to an unflux of settlers from Luthori and other areas of Terra, altering the population and increasing the Hosian population.

Despite its history of foreign oppression Beiteynu has retained a largely Yeudish ethnic and religious majority.

==ETHNICITY==

The country is confirmed as a majority Yeudi nation. The non-“Majatran” colonial population from Luthori and Seleucia continues to exist, but also continues its decline, we are now many centuries away from the Kingdom of Yishalem. The Jelbic population is confirmed as the largest minority group, albeit can be broken down further into Pntek and Brmek ethnic groups. Black Yeudis are still counted as the Beta Yishalem, although their share of the population has declined as they continue to be absorbed into the mainstream Yeudi community. Minorities of Arev Mardik are broken out from the Pntek population, and minorities of Kathurans are broken out from the Brmek population. General “Majatrans” exists as an almost exclusively Ahmadi grouping, perhaps why they continue to describe themselves as Majatrans rather than one of the more specific ethnic groups.

Yeudis – 61% - Equally spread out around Beiteynu.
Jelbics – 15%
-- Pntek – 10% - Mostly in Tadraki with a minority in Endild and other provinces.
-- Brmek – 5% - Concentrated in Padrilka and Quo'gun.
Luthorians – 6% - Mostly in coastal and urban areas, particular concentration in Endild historically.
Beta Yishalem – 6% - Mostly in urban areas.
Majatrans – 5% - Mostly in urban areas especially Endild and Fruskila (ie seperate from Brmek Muslims)
Seleucians – 3% - Mostly in coastal and urban areas.
Arev Mardik – 1% - Mostly in Tadraki
Kathurans – 1% - Mostly in Quo'gun and Padrilka.
Other – 2% - Mostly in coastal and urban areas.

==RELIGION==

Religion closely responds to ethncitiy. Most Yeudis and Beta Yishamelm are religious Yeudis, however some also belong to the liberal Shultzism, and others declare no religion. The Hosians are the largest minority religious group, however these can be broken down into further denominations based on ethnicity, for an overview please see below. Most Majatrans and Brmek identify as Ahmadis, and then there are a number of minor religions, or persons of no faith recorded in the Cultural Protocal.

Yeudism – 59%
Hosianism – 23%
-- Apostolic Church of the East (Patriarchal Church Eastern Rite) – 12%
----Hobrazian Orthodox Church – 9% (Largely Pntek, but also the Arev Mardik)
----Barmenian Apostolic Church – 3% (Brmek and Kathurans and a very small number of ethnic Yeudis.)
-- Holy Luthori Church – 5% (Luthori’s)
-- Seleucian Patriarchal Church – 4% (Seleucians and a minority of Pntek/Brmek)
-- Oseyim - 1%
-- Other – 1% (Including the Terran (Deltarian Rite) and Theognosian (Canrillaise Rite) Patriarchal Churches)
Ahmadism – 9%
-- Queranzariah/Israism 7% (Evenly split between Majatran and Brmek)
-- Abadi – 2% (Evenly split between Majatran and Brmek)
Shultzism – 2%
Other/None – 7%

==LANGUAGE==

Primary Language, as spoken at home:

- Yeudi 65%
- Luthori 13%
- Pntek/Brmek 13%
- Seleucian 4%
- Majatran 3%
- Other 2%

Languages Spoken, most Beiteynu can communicate in Yeudi, with Luthori having emerged as the primary second language. Canrillaise was once a common language, but continues its decline.

- Yeudi 95%
- Luthori 50%
- Pntek/Brmek 20%
- Canrillaise 15%
- Seleucian 10%
- Majatran 10%
- Other 5%

MessageThoughts and comments appreciated. Please see this is a more complete update to previous Cultural Protocals that have had a number of inaccuracies. This also reflects over 500 years of cultural evolution since the last Cultural Protocal update that was voted on.

MessageHey, sorry for butting in, as I am not a Beiteynu player. Mind if I suggest a couple of minor corrections?

1. Queranzariah was recently renamed as Israism for linguistic reasons (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5131&start=50#p82871 http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Israism).
2. The proper name for the ethnic group is Arev Mardik.
3. You could add some Oseans (http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Oseyim) in Beiteynu, as they tend to be ethnically Yeudi.

Thanks, and sorry for the intrusion. This is one of the best and most well-researched CPs I've seen in the game so far, well done!

MessageOOC: I like the fact that you are reviving Beiteynu but I'm sorry, how exactly have Beta Yishelem gone down from 20% to 6%? It just does not appear very realistic IMO. I recently played in Beiteynu as the Am Ehad party (as Muremba) and even had a Beta Yishelem Prime Minister Nathan Nahari. You would have to do extensive RP before dramatically increasing or reducing the level of any ethnic/cultural group.

As for Hosians, they are in my view too many (in this proposal) and should be reduced substantially. Why? It would be easier to maintain Beiteynu's Yeudish character with that special tinge of religion which has always been part of its history since Yeudi are an ethno-religious group. Now you even have Hosian parties there and with 25% Hosians they can realistically claim that Beiteynu's a considerably Hosian country.

MessageIn answer to the Prsakijsrlji Mrjogad (above post) I understand your points.

However, the last Cultural protocal that is officially recognised by the MODs is the following http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.sphp?billid=346077. In that document;

- The Beta Yishalem were 10% of the population
- Hosians were 30% of the population

I have used the more recent Cultural protocals in our debating area as a guide, but they are not legitimate (according to the MODs). So we are talking of a small decline in both the Beta Yishalem population and the Hosian population. As I also point out in the text regarding ethnicity, I am sugggesting that greater numbers of Black Yeudis exist, but that they have been absorbed into the mainstream Yeudi community rather than necessarily being seperate. As Yeudis are Qedarites, surely over the course of several generations a black population would potentially be watered down through intermarriage and cultural integration?

Due to the historic populations of Pntek, Luthori's and Seleucians which have been recorded in previous cultural protocals, the Hosian population is always going to be above 20%. Even if your CP work ( http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=420609 ), those 3 ethnic groups made up 24% of the population (yet only 3/5ths of them were Hosian). This cultural protocals maintains Luthori's/Seleucians on a downward demographic trend, the Pntek as a stable 10% of the population and as such Hosians will continue to decline.

MessageOK I've looked more carefully and realised that I never actually saw that there was an older Cultural Protocol (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.sphp?billid=346077) The later one was never approved by Mods so it appears I was wrong on that massive decline - it is a relatively small one as you say. As for a minority be watered down over time, I can't really comment with much certainty but I personally think a minority would probably avoid intermarriage to a greater extent purely for self preservation.

I never really finished my own CP but yes I had intended to make some of the Pnteks similar to the historical Khazars and convert them to Yeudism. I never however finished tweaking the number and since my CP are based on the invalid ones, they too are invalid.

All in all, no more objections from me.

    Random fact: Cultural Protocols should generally be reflective of RP conducted within the nation and should not significantly alter or modify the ethnic, religious or linguistic composition without considerable and reasonable role-play or other justification.
