Bill: Organ Donation Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Federal Green Party (FGP)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 3813

Description[?]:

The purpose of this bill is to change our current opt-in system for organ donation to an opt-out system.

We face a shortage of organs and this means thousands of Solentians will suffer and die as a result. Having this reform would change all of that. It would mean that consent for organ donation is assumed. But this bill would allow anyone and everyone to opt out for any or no reason whatsoever. If you are opposed due to religious, personal, or other reasons then you are free to opt out, this should never be questioned.

The idea behind this is simple: Most people say they support the idea of organ donations. But at the same time many of these people do not choose to become organ donors. Turning this around, it can be expected that if you have to opt out that again the majority of people would not choose to do so. This would mean that we would have plenty of organs available for those who require a transplant in Solentia. It is only one bill but it has far-reaching effects: saving the lives of thousands of Solentians every single year!

Message"We agree with this. Why do your organs matter to you when you die? If you have religious or personal reasons not to donate, you shouldn't have to, but unless that's the case, donating is good."

MessageWe are very happy to hear of your support! Indeed, if someone wishes to opt out they should always be free to do so without any penalty towards them because of their decision.

This is a proposal that would save the lives of thousands of our people and not negatively effect anyone in Solentia.

MessageWould the two parties who voted against this bill be so kind as to explain their reasoning? Who would be opposed to saving the lives of thousands of Solentians?

Again, this keeps organ donation entirely voluntary. It simply changes the law from presumed denial to presumed consent. Anyone and everyone would still be free to opt out of organ donation for any reason or no stated reason. No one is negatively affected by this bill.
