Bill: Housing Reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Free Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 3815
Description[?]:
"We understand the poverty situation in Solentia. The problem is that government funded housing doesn't help poor people. It just keeps them at a stagnant poor but not homeless condition. If the industry was privatized, it'd give more control to these poor and jobless people. They'd have opportunities to get a job and buy a house. Privatization makes things cheap, and it'd be more affordable." ~Ted Johnson, Head Chairman of the LPS |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government policy regarding housing.
Old value:: The state provides public housing to low-income families.

Message | "I point members to the Right to Buy Act 2786 (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=257839) which is still in force which allows those low-income families to use savings to buy-out the Government and enter properties into the private sector at a saving to the State. In other words- this nonsense about opportunities and making things cheap with privatisation is a ploy to rob hard working people current aiming and aspiring to purchase their home. Those people, under this bill, would become instantly homeless. Freedom indeed." Ala-ad-Din ibn Haroun al-Fulan, Supreme President |

Message | "The enacting of this bill would allow for public houses to become private houses. Public house members would be given their homes or some other solution." ~Ted Johnson, Head Chairman of the LPS |

Message | This LPS bill is like many others, pass a law with no transition plan, no details at all and *POOF* like magic the market works miracles. |

Message | One of the key planks of the Reform Option of Solentia is to provide homes to the poor and the homeless. This saves us an immense amount of money on law enforcement and incarceration costs. It's cost effective and it helps those of us who have fallen on hard times. Who would be against that? Tommy Gapard, Head Speaker of the Reform Option Council |

Message | "The LPS has stated "public house members wold be given their homes" - so effectively, giving away social housing for free as opposed to the current system in which people buy their homes and the country as a whole benefits. What nonsense." Ala-ad-Din ibn Haroun al-Fulan, Supreme President |

Message | "Listen, the SUN made a good point. The market will indeed fix the situation. The only thing the government will do is make it worse." ~Ted Johnson, Head Chairman of the LPS |
