MessageOur old law makes no sense. "All workers have the right to strike, but..." But what? But in spite of this, we do not let "certain categories of workers regarded as critical to society" to strike.

Perhaps if we let these critical workers strike, the public would get involved and help bring a swift end to the conditions that caused the strike to begin with.

MessageThe AAS believes the JLP is misunderstanding what the law says...

Even in 'critical categories', the workers can strike. They just have to make sure that a certain 'emergency level' (if you will) is maintained.

How they do that, is up to them. Striking in 'shifts' might be one way of doing it.

MessageIf certain "critical categories" have to ensure a minimal level of service, then they are not really striking. The idea behind a strike is to force management to see things as of the working members of the organization. If managment is still pulling in $$$, they don't give a rip if someone is faux-striking or not.

MessageResponse to the JLP: Management DOES suffer under a 'minimal service strike'... but, more importantly, people are not dying in the streets of Likatonia, while ambulance drivers air their grievances.

The point of industrial action SHOULD be to draw attention to problems, and to move towards resolving them... not to cause chaos and harm on the streets of Likatonian cities.

MessagePSS side with our collegues in the AAS on this issue. Police, Ambulance drivers, should have the right to strike - however minimal service saves lives (eg, this could be ambulance drivers rendering assistance, but refusing to do paperwork and other non life threatening functions).

Message<sigh>

The workers of Likatonia will remember this. Especially the "critical" workers. Big business wins again.

MessageResponse to the JLP: The AAS feels this may be an appropriate juncture to remind the JLP that we had to fight to gain the 'rights to strike' that we DO have.... and that parties such as the AAS could have actually pushed for legislation that would have lessened the 'right to strike', if not removed it.

"Big Business" winning might well have cost the workers ANY "rights to strike".
