Bill: Budget proposal of January 3823

Details

Submitted by[?]: Free Democratic Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3823

Description[?]:

"This bill is going to end all subsides to corporations. We currently do not give support to failing corporations, but we did not alter our budget accordingly. Corporations are not worth supporting, as their failure should be acceptable. CEOs are NOT gods. They shouldn't be in bed with the government."

~Tom Rand, Financial Director of the LPS and Minister of Trade and Industry

MessageWe agree, Corporate Welfare is the one form of welfare that should be aggressively tackled.

Note, if this bill is passed we will pass a major tax reform benefiting the middle class. So the cuts are not being made without benefiting regular Solentians.

MessageMore specifically this would be the tax proposal that is laid out if this budget proposal passes:

>30,000 SOL - 15%
>90,000 SOL - 40%

Cutting out the middle tax bracket of >60,000 SOL - 30% entirely. Giving the middle class a much needed tax break.

We are open to discussion here though and could work with a compromise that changes this a bit.
For example:
>40,000 SOL - 20%
>80,000 SOL - 40%
This would bring in a comparable amount of income as well.

Please let us know what you think about both/either of these proposals.

MessageWe did't have corporate welfare. Nationalizing failing industries is NOT corporate welfare because industries then transferred to the public sector

MessageAre both LPS and FGRP stupid enough to believe 80% of the budget of the Ministry of Trade and Industry goes to corporate welfare? Yes.

MessageFor starters, ministries managing industry are concerned with research and development, standardizing weights and measures, enforcing what regulation is present in all industries, compiling industrial future projections and present-past statistics that are invaluable to the private sector, encouraging the establishment and growth of small business, managing and encouraging foreign investment and deals as well as all manner of trade, economic forecasting as well as unemployment data that the stock and bond markets depend on, enforcing workplace rights and settling disputes, etc.

But aside from all that; the wages of all the many, many employees that will have to be sacked, perhaps even the pensions and benefits of those already retired. But, I guess they can all find a good private sector job now, right?
